Coming from a very athletic childhood playing hockey, Adam began martial arts with a different mindset than most: an athlete wanting to learn a new sport. Not only did he learn the basics, he paid great attention to the details and intricacies. As a young child, Adam took karate with his dad, before beginning Thai boxing with Bob Carver (Thai Boxing Association of Canada). He then went on to earn his Thai Boxing Instructorship under Arjarn Chai (Thai Boxing Association of USA).

In 1993, Adam began training with Erik Paulson (Combat Submission Wrestling-CSW), and later became certified as a CSW instructor. Wanting to further expand into different martial arts, Adam began training with the Machado brothers (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu-BJJ), in 1994, and then Dan Inosanto in 1996. He went on to become an associate instructor in Jeet Kune Do, Kali and Maphilindo Silat under Inosanto, as well as in Shooto under Yorinaga Nakamura.

Moving his training to the west coast in 1998, Adam started training with Marcus Soares (Carlson Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu), earning his coveted black belt in March 2008. Adam is now the first, and only, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt on Vancouver Island.

Still considering himself a student of martial arts, Adam is continually training with the best in the world. Being able to perform and being able to teach are 2 very different things, yet Adam is equally apt at both. His passion for learning and teaching is evident in every class he runs, as well as in the success of his students.

Adam’s extensive knowledge, paired with his ability to break techniques down for each individual’s learning style and his easy-going personality, make him the number one instructor/coach on Vancouver Island.
